Year Four
Hello and welcome to Year 4
Summer 2025
We have had lots of fun in Year 4 over the summer term.
In English, we read ‘Escape from Pompeii’. We really enjoyed learning all about Mount Vesuvius and what happened to Pompeii. We wrote brilliant setting descriptions using the book for inspiration. Additionally, we also thought about what Pompeii is like today. We each made our own travel brochures, using persuasive language to encourage people to come and visit!
Our Science topic for the second half of the term has been sound. We have been thinking about what sound is, how it is produced and how it travels. We conducted an experiment trying to make the best string phones! We worked in pairs and made string phones using different lengths of string to test how the volume of the sound changed. We loved making these and trying them out.

We have been working hard in maths. We all completed our multiplication checks and were fantastic resilient tortoises. Additionally, we have been learning about coordinates, how to find them and we have drawn our own ones!
In history, we have been learning about Roman Britain. We have been learning all about what life was like for the Romans in Britain. We have researched inventions the Romans brought to Britain such as roads. Also, we each designed our own Roman villa.
In art, we created our own puppet theatres based around the theme of dreams. First, we had to come up with a story for our puppet theatre and think of the design. Then, we had to make our theatres! We used lots of different materials, and also added 3D features! We then had the opportunity to perform them for reception, which we really enjoyed.

In DT, we have been learning all about seasonality. We have been thinking about which fruits and vegetables are in season, and why eating seasonal food is important. Using our knowledge of seasonal fruit, we each made our own fruit tarts. As well as thinking about the fruit we used, we also had to think about our presentation.
