Active 60

Beech Hyde promotes the Active 60 campaign to ensure that every child can achieve 60 active minutes, every day.

Studies over the past few years have found that over 50% of children were not getting enough exercise. On top of this, physical activity levels for children have plummeted following Covid-19, with less than 20% of children meeting Chief Medical Officer guidelines of 60 active minutes a day. This is not enough to ensure physical health or mental wellbeing.

Beech Hyde aims to ensure all our children are active for 60 mins per day by:

  • Encouraging active and creative play twice (three times at KS1) a day, on our playground/field at break and lunchtimes
  • A daily mile
  • Two PE lessons a week
  • 10+ extracurricular sports clubs a week
  • Promoting local sports clubs and opportunities
  • Embracing new and exciting offers to broaden cultural capital and introduce children to new and exciting activities
  • In our partnership with St Albans and District School Games ://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STxOWAdPRgUe
  • Participation in the Harpenden and District Sports Association, taking part in a variety of sports leagues and events

In Wheathampstead, we are fortunate to have some lovely green spaces, parks and facilities.

In the wider St Albans and Hertforshire area there are also many opportunities for families and children to try new forms of exercise and activity. Hertfordshire School Games Organisers (sportinherts.org.uk)
